Big Game Bets.
Last week’s 6-5 performance was by no means stellar but it got us back to making a profit. Our yearly record is now at 54-34-3 ATS (61.36%). We started the year hotter than an Eskimo in the Louisiana Bayou smack in the middle of July. Ever since then we’ve been standing our ground but the Money Train is due for an explosion. I say this week we ride into Cash Town and stuff our cargo to the brim with dollar bill sacks.
I’ve put my damn game face on this week. We’re taking no prisoners and showing no mercy to these bookies. If you want to get rich then put the house on this week’s lineup. Its big game week in college football and we’re about to step up to the plate and make like Aaron Judge in the home run derby.
Washington -6 @ Stanford
Let me say Chris Peterson is a hell of a coach. We haven’t been taking much advantage of Washington this season. When your buried on the late time slot its hard for us southern boys to keep a vigilant eye on the west coast. However, Washington has my attention now. They are 8-1 SU and 6-3 ATS. The Huskies may be flying under the radar due to the egg they laid against Arizona State but otherwise this team has been burying opponents. Washington has a chance to stay hot down the stretch and I say they roll against the Cardinal. This game is on Friday night and will be a great jump start on our weekend.
Michigan State +15.5 @ Ohio State
Michigan State really gets no respect. They are warranted underdogs but this is a big number. Thank the football Gods that Ohio State has 2 losses so we don’t have to watch them in another playoff. The committee has the biggest hard on for that school and its annoying. Screw Ohio State. I hope Sparty rips them on Saturday and Urban Meyer rants about more of his chest pains. I’m not counting on that but this MSU team is scrappy. They can easily cover this spread.
Georgia -2.5 @ Auburn
I have to be honest, this line gave me some pause. It almost seems too easy to take Georgia. Auburn is playing well of recent and this rivalry is classic southern college football. However I don’t know if the public has fully come to grips with how good Georgia is this year. Kirby Smart has built his team with Nick Saban in mind. They kind of remind you of the 2009 Bama squad. Mini Bama can make a statement in this game and I think the separator could be their defense. We saw what a quality defense can do to this Auburn team when they faced Clemson. And Georgia’s defense could be elite level.
Florida State +16 @ Clemson
I know Florida State has screwed us all year long. Like a bad habit I just can’t kick, I can’t stay away from this team. That defense just has so much talent I know they can still hang with anybody when they are focused. And that’s the kicker. I think this team still has pride and they will get up for playing Clemson. This game has elevated as a rivalry in recent years and I expect the Seminoles to play with some inspiration. Clemson is good but I don’t think they’re quite championship level.
Iowa @ Wisconsin -12
Iowa on the road after their win against Ohio State is a classic letdown spot. Iowa at home vs on the road is two different things. Obviously all the squares will jump at taking Iowa +12, but I know better. Not to mention this Wisconsin team has to feel disrespected. This team has a classic old Big Ten grind it out style and I respect it. Eventually Wisconsin will force people to pay attention if they continue to put their opponents away.
TCU @ Oklahoma -6.5
Oklahoma may not have a defense but they do have the best quarterback in college football. And that accounts for a lot in today’s game. Baker Mayfield has put this team on his shoulders and it feels unwise to bet against him in a Big 12 game like this. TCU is legitimately the second best team in the conference but Oklahoma is king of the Big 12 until proven otherwise.
Alabama -14 @ Mississippi State
Should it be a rule to bet Bama anytime they are 2 touchdown and under favorites? Maybe. Bama has won only one game by less than 14 and that was to Texas A&M, which easily could of been a blowout. Alabama will continue their quest of world domination and Mississippi State won’t hang around for long.
Notre Dame @ Miami +3
South Beach vs. South Bend. I totally dig it. This is a good ass football game for real. I think both of these teams have been playing at a very high level. Honestly I think Notre Dame loses a little of its magic when it steps away from South Bend. I like getting this Miami team with points in Hard Rock Stadium. Mark Richt has this team playing with swagger and I love it. They haven’t always won in convincing fashion but they continue to find ways to win. Sidenote: Would it not be classic if Mark Richt got a chance to knock off Georgia in the playoff? I honestly hope that somehow happens.
My Playoff Four
Since the season is now coming down the stretch, its time to start interjecting my opinion on what the playoff poll should look like. Like it or not, college football is often decided upon by opinion. I’ll enlighten you at the end of every week with what I think the playoff should look like if it ENDED TODAY. That being the key component.
1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. Notre Dame
4. Miami
First two out: 5. Wisconsin 6. Clemson
